Morongwe Mokone of Mabopane has progressed from artisan to successful co-founder of her own handcrafted decor enterprise. She learned the technique of origami from her Japanese roommate when she was 18 years old while studying in England, and she now operates a flourishing firm and reigns as the queen of home décor.

She is a co-founder of a one-of-a-kind home décor design firm that focuses on generating sustainable and handmade decor items.

Mokone owns a company dedicated to sustainability, emphasizing fair salaries and healthy working conditions for local craftspeople. Her company promotes eco-friendly methods and community development by conserving traditional craftsmanship and providing a safe, ethical workplace.

Mo’s Crib has built a distinct market position for customers who respect both design and sustainability.

Mo’s Crib prioritizes sustainability; the company works with local craftspeople to ensure fair salaries and promote traditional workmanship. This collaboration not only benefits local economies, but it also protects the culture and practices of artisans that might otherwise be lost.

Mokone is a self-taught craftsman and designer who aspires to have a good impact on the community while also raising environmental awareness.

Mo’s Crib is founded on the notion that dcor should represent the personality of the homeowner. As a result, their products are frequently bold and imaginative.

Their products are also internationally renowned for their remarkable design and craftsmanship.

Their “handmade in South Africa” approach ensures that each product is authentic, stylish, and thoughtful, while also maintaining talent, creating jobs, and lowering carbon footprints.

By combining design with sustainability, the brand offers alternative home decor that is both beautiful and environmentally responsible. Their dedication to quality, sustainability, and original design sets them apart in the home decor sector.

HowSouth inquired about Mo’s Crib’s approach to balancing creativity and sustainability in their designs, as well as what future sustainability advances they want to pursue.

“We carefully select eco-friendly materials, ensuring they are either biodegradable or recyclable,” she explained.

Mo’s Crib assures that their products are both stunningly inventive and environmentally responsible by incorporating sustainability into every level of the design process.

Mokone further states that the manufacturing method is designed to minimize waste and environmental effect while focusing on product quality and longevity.

She also notes that Mo’s crib is constantly looking into new environmentally friendly materials and procedures.

“We’ve recently launched products made from the bark of old banana trees, and we’re also developing outdoor furniture made from recycled Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) plastic, which will help our communities become more sustainable,” she says.

Mokone is one of six finalists for the 2024 Veuve Clicquot Bold Women Awards, which honor today’s pioneering business women by recognizing individuals who have a solid track record and have demonstrated development and transformation in their industry.

The awards event took place on Wednesday, July 17, in Johannesburg.
