Tyla, an internationally famous performer, received four South African Music Awards (SAMAs) this weekend. Tyla’s global breakthrough led to six nominations for her self-titled debut album. The 23-year-old took home Best Pop Album, Newcomer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, and Best International Act awards.
The Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg hosted this year’s South African Music Awards (SAMAs). The renowned awards honored South Africa’s musical brilliance throughout the last 30 years.
The event was hosted by Minenhle ‘Minnie’ Dlamini, a compelling media personality known for her impressive clothing changes.
Her red carpet gown was designed by AFI Atelier specifically for her. Asanda Madyibi, Minnie’s long-time fashion designer, designed the second short and attractive item. Asanda’s final appearance included a traditional red Zulu hat known as isicholo, which women wear. This was worn with a crimson, sparkly crop top and a short, white tulle skirt.
Tyla, who was filming a music video at the time of the award presentation, accepted the International Achievement Award in a heartfelt video.
Tyla has admirers who support her no matter what. The following are just a few of the wonderful remarks left after viewing her acceptance video for the International Achievement SAMA Award.
