A 32-year-old man will come before the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on Monday after being detained for possessing a stolen car, a white Toyota Land Cruiser Prado VX.
Brian Kagiso Mahlo appeared in Limpopo court last week and was remanded into detention. He is anticipated to file for bail.
Mahlo was arrested on August 8, 2024, for possessing a stolen motor vehicle, following a tip-off about a car being smuggled out of South Africa to adjacent Zimbabwe via the major Beitbridge port of entry.
“The team responded quickly, and a white Toyota Prado VX that was reported stolen on August 5, 2024 in Villieria policing area, Pretoria in Gauteng province was spotted on the R37 from Lebowakgomo to Polokwane,” stated Limpopo provincial police spokeswoman Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
The police intercepted the popular SUV and, after searching it, Ledwaba stated that the driver, “who is a South African national, was unable to produce the valid documents of the vehicle”.
The man was caught on the spot for possession of a suspected stolen automobile.
“The police established that the vehicle, a white Toyota Prado, is at a value of R900,000,” says Ledwaba.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, has welcomed the arrest and praised the police personnel “for always being dedicated to their duties and persistently recovering the stolen vehicles”.
Earlier this month, HowSouthAfrica reported that police had seized a Toyota Land Cruiser 200 in Lebowakgomo, near Polokwane, Limpopo.
The recovered Toyota Land Cruiser 200 is owned by Mandla Mandela, a former Member of Parliament and the grandson of the late former President Nelson Mandela.
According to Ledwaba, the sport utility vehicle was intercepted in the breakaway province while it was being smuggled into Zimbabwe.
