Unlicensed Man Caught in Limpopo Driving a Stolen Toyota Fortuner from Gauteng

A 33-year-old man was detained in Limpopo on various charges, including possession of a presumed stolen car and violating the Immigration Act during an anti-smuggling operation.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a provincial police spokesperson, said the Zimbabwean national was arrested early Friday in the Polokwane policing area.

“Reportedly, members of the Limpopo SA Police Service’s provincial anti-smuggling task team received a tip off about a stolen vehicle that was destined to be smuggled out of the country,” according to Ledwaba.

“The team arrested a Zimbabwean male national who was found driving a white Toyota Fortuner on N1 Road behind Peter Mokaba Stadium.” According to preliminary police investigations, the vehicle was reported stolen on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in the Alberton policing district of Gauteng province.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, has hailed the arrest of the 33-year-old male.

Hadebe praised the police officers who helped recover the stolen sport utility vehicle.

The 33-year-old accused man will appear in Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a number of allegations, including possession of a presumed stolen motor vehicle, violating the Immigration Act, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.

The SAPS stated that investigations are ongoing.
