Zuma’s MKP Introduces New Constitution to Address Misconduct Issues

Anyone who joins the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party would be placed on 24-month probation before being formally acknowledged as a member, according to the party’s leadership.

During this time, if any member is determined to have seriously broken the code of conduct, the party’s senior officials have the ability to promptly cancel and suspend their membership.

The MKP revealed the move during a news conference in Johannesburg on Friday.

The party has formally approved its first constitution, which its officials feel will set a clear tone inside the group.

National organiser Floyd Shivambu outlined the party’s approach, stating that it will ensure decisive action on internal problems.

He added that MKP’s constitution specified its values, principles, standards, and operational procedures, as well as a code of conduct for members to maintain discipline and cohesion.

This is the company’s first explicit operating guidelines. The party was registered with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) in September and will launch strategically on December 16, 2023.

The African National Congress (ANC) and its coalition partners were marking the anniversary of its right-wing arm, uMkhonto weSizwe (MK).

This widened the gap between the two companies, resulting in court challenges over MK’s emblem and trademark.

Meanwhile, the party has formed an 11-member internal disciplinary committee to ensure that members follow the code of conduct and are held accountable for any transgressions.

MKP expelled several members for poor discipline and lack of accountability.

Shivambu also underlined that no elective conference will be conducted because the highest command is in place.
