Female American rapper, Nicki Minaj recently bestowed 37 of her ride or die fans with academic scholarships that will cover tuition and loans.
Last Friday, Onika Miraj, as she was named at birth, announced the “Student of the Game” scholarship awardees on Twitter, much to the fanfare of the winners.
Like Minaj, there are several other black celebrities whose charitable actions are making the news.

French Montana
The Bronx, New York-bred rapper was so moved while filming the video for his hit “Unforgettable” that he decided to leave a lasting mark with Ugandans.
Montana donated $100,000 to the Mama Hope Foundation, an organization in Uganda geared towards improving healthcare. The rapper also convinced rapper and producer Diddy and swooner The Weeknd to match his donation.
Montana commented at an event in January held to honor him, “It feels beautiful to be a child of God, citizen of the world and agent of change. I’m helping the people that need help, you know.”
Jay-Z
The hip-hop duo is extremely hush-hush when it comes to the details of their lives. So it should come as no surprise that many of their charitable donations are not widely publicized.
Nevertheless, in 2008 the rapper performed at the Africa Rising Music Festival; proceeds went to Africa Rising. The organization aims to preserve African” social, political, and economic progress.”
He’s also given thousands of dollars worth of donations to the Made in Africa Foundation and the Global Citizen Project.
Lil Jon
Rapper and DJ Lil Jon has founded not one but two schools in Ghana, West Africa.
Jon donated $70,000 for the formulation of Abomayaw D.A. Kindergarten and Mafi Atitekpo DA Primary School.
He was moved to help the children of Africa because of a trip and the fact that his own son is enrolled in New York University.
“When I saw the conditions where these children were trying to learn, one community they had a big mango tree and two classes were sitting under the mango tree and that’s not a condition conducive with learning” the rapper explained.
