Home Affairs has begun the process of revoking the South African identification and travel documents of Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Chidimma Adetshina, as she prepares to compete at Miss Universe.
Since the new developments, which involve the subject being handed over to the Hawks for criminal investigation, some South African netizens are now demanding the global Miss Universe organization to remove Adetshina from the event.
The beauty queen departed South Africa in August to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, which she subsequently won. She was forced to withdraw from Miss South Africa 2024 after Home Affairs discovered that her parents may have committed identity theft when she was born in Soweto.
This week, Home Affairs officials appeared in Parliament to provide an update on the situation.
According to investigators, Adetshina and her Mozambican mother, Anabela Rungo, may face fraud charges following an extensive investigation.
Home Affairs announced on Tuesday that they had completed their investigations and would cancel Adetshina and her family’s identity and travel documents after they failed to respond to the Monday deadline for making a presentation explaining why they should keep their South African documents.
Home Affairs also disclosed that they have handed over the case to the Hawks for criminal inquiry.
In August, Chidimma informed Nigerian journalists that she would not return to South Africa.

X user @RealLesBongani commented, “Will all developments surfaced in South Africa about Chidima, Miss Universe should not allow her to participate in the event, crime was committed, a family’s life is ruined for 22 years while they had it all.”
X user @SegopotjeNkadi3 commented, “I wholeheartedly welcome decision by Home Affairs minister to cancel ID and travel documents of Chidimma Adetshina and her mother.”
