A lawyer was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for throwing her newborn daughter out of a window, fearing it would jeopardize her Porsche executive position.
The Heilbronn District Court in Germany heard how Katarina Jovanovic of Lauffen am Neckar, Baden-Wuerttemberg State, gave birth on September 12, 2023, despite not notifying anybody she was pregnant.
According to Mail Online, she dropped her daughter from her flat. The infant fell on the windowsill and was discovered by a passerby.
The publication said that she admitted to the crime at the start of the trial in April, but did not elaborate on what happened.
She also claimed she wasn’t aware she was pregnant. The prosecution, on the other hand, claimed she was aware of her pregnancy and charged her with murder, claiming she purposefully concealed it from coworkers and neighbors.
According to the online journal, authorities claimed Jovanovic believed becoming a mother would jeopardize her work as an executive in Porsche’s legal department.
”The accused was unwilling to put her life aspirations, particularly her career advancement, on wait for a kid.”That was her decision when the baby was born, and as a result, the criteria for a murder conviction are met,” prosecutor Mareike Hafendoerfer was reported as saying.
According to Mail Online, Jovanovic’s lawyer, Malte Hoech, said she accidently dropped the baby after giving birth at home without understanding she was pregnant. He claimed that she should be prosecuted with manslaughter rather than murder.
‘This is a personal drama for me. My customer was not even aware that she was pregnant. She was in a unique psychological state when she unexpectedly held the bloodied infant in her arms. It was an accident; she dropped the infant. It is unclear how the toddler got over the windowsill. Hoech is cited as saying.
