A 19-year-old employee was discovered dead in a supermarket’s oven. Her tragic tale has gone viral online, with many demanding justice.
Gursimran Kaur, a Walmart employee from Canada, was discovered dead in her store’s walk-in oven, with the electricity still turned on.
This is based on recordings of emergency officials reacting to the disaster, according to People.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, a female was locked in an oven in a bakery. It is unclear if personnel could turn it off.
A second emergency officer was quoted as saying: “The person trapped in the… on their… do we have the powers off for that? Does the staff want to turn the power off?” “In case we make contact.”
Another officer apparently followed up by stating that the person who had been in the oven had exited.
The woman who was burned alive was later identified by her mother.
According to the Maritime Sikh Society, the mother and daughter worked in the store for two years.
“The community has been shocked by the whole incident and they feel for it, and of course the immediate family is upset with the shock, they’re in a kind of trauma,” said Harjit Seyan, president of the society.
“We are really, really upset about the whole thing of course and really sorry to hear such a tragic event.”
The group went on to explain that Kaur and her mother emigrated to Canada three years ago from the United Kingdom and were natives of India, with Kaur’s father and brother still remaining in the Asian country.
The group has also created a GoFundMe campaign to help cover burial costs and transport family members to Canada for final rites. On Friday morning, approximately $185,532 (or R 2,367,215) had been raised.
An investigation into the death has been initiated.
Thousands of individuals have expressed their condolences to the family and called for justice for Kaur.
