On Thursday, a vehicle bringing a chemical crop sprayer from Durban seaport to the Free State was allegedly detected with at least R8 million in hidden cocaine.
Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo, spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal Hawks, said police investigators received information about a truck carrying a chemical crop sprayer with cocaine hidden within.
“A disruptive operation was quickly performed, and members went to the aforementioned industrial area. The truck was traced and determined to be stationary.
“A search was conducted, and members discovered 20 bricks of cocaine hidden inside the chemical sprayer bin.” “A detailed statement was obtained from the driver, and no arrests have been made at this time,” Mhlongo said.
Mhlongo explained that the probe was still ongoing.
In a similar case earlier this month, KZN police detained a 46-year-old man after a large drug bust at a Durban North residential complex.
Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a police spokeswoman, stated that officers had been tracking the suspect for some time before making their move.
Officers from the provincial narcotics and guns section dismantled yet another drug lab on Ronaldo Road in Glen Anil.
“Further investigations led the police to a residential complex in Umgeni Park where the suspect was renting an apartment,” said Netshiunda.
Officers discovered R1.3 million worth of heroin, rock cocaine, and mandrax on the site.
“Police also discovered and seized equipment that the suspect was allegedly using to manufacture drugs.” “An undisclosed amount of money was also discovered on the premises,” Netshiunda stated.
The individual was arrested and charged with drug manufacture and distribution.
