ActionSA has written to the Home Affairs Department and the SA Revenue Service (SARS), urging a crackdown on illegal immigration and questionable companies in Temba, Hammanskraal.
During an oversight visit last week, the party uncovered unauthorized foreign nationals living in the area and doing suspicious activities.
The party claims to have identified 23 properties, many of which were occupied by illegal immigrants, that had been turned into spaza stores, restaurants, and wholesalers selling counterfeit goods.
Other constructions were discovered to be connected to illegal electricity transformers.
ActionSA stated that their engagement in the case was prompted by a petition signed by locals worried about the presence of illegal foreigners in the neighborhood.
Themba is a water-stressed neighborhood where residents gather water from mobile tankers. However, if the tankers do not arrive, residents may endure days without water.
The water crisis in Hammanskraal has been a big issue for nearly two decades, yet there is still no solution.
The town was dealt a catastrophic blow when a cholera outbreak struck in May 2023.
The outbreak was caused by a lack of upkeep to the region’s water plant infrastructure.
According to ActionSA, the Tshwane Caucus will follow up with the City of Tshwane municipality to launch an investigation into the violations of municipal trading and zoning by-laws involving the 23 identified homes.
“It cannot be that South Africa is bullied into being the exception, where the spread of narcotics, counterfeit goods, and building hijackings are addressed with leniency rather than a stern response.
“ActionSA has drawn the line and will utilise every legal avenue at our disposal to protect South Africa and her people from the ills that continue to destroy our communities, whether perpetrated by foreign nationals or South Africans,” the group said in a statement.
Meanwhile, ActionSA’s visit comes just two weeks after the discovery of illicit military training camps in Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
The camps are apparently run by unauthorized and undocumented foreign nationals.
ActionSA stated that it would continue to fight for Temba inhabitants and towns throughout South Africa that have been decimated by lawlessness and the effects of illegal immigration.
