Rock Legends Goo Goo Dolls Announce Three-City SA Tour

This holiday season, international rock sensation Goo Goo Dolls will perform in three cities in South Africa.

The Grammy-nominated American rock band, known for their electric stage presence and chart-topping tunes such as “Iris,” “Slide,” and “Black Balloon,” will be making their first visit to South Africa.

The duo, consisting of guitarist and vocalist John Rzeznik and bassist and vocalist Robby Takac, will perform in Cape Town at the Kirstenbosch Gardens on December 4, at the ICC Durban on December 5, and at Pretoria’s Voortrekker Monument on December 7.

“Whether you’ve been a long-time fan or recently discovered their timeless tunes, this is your chance to sing along to all their greatest hits, live in South Africa,” says a press release.

“Expect a night of powerful performances, amazing atmosphere and unforgettable memories,” the press release said.

Tickets, ranging from R645 to R1295, are available through Webtickets.

“This is a rare chance to see the Grammy-nominated band, known for their nostalgia-infused rock, perform live.”

Rzeznik and Takac formed the Goo Goo Dolls in New York in 1986, and they have since secured their place in the music world.

George Tutuska, the band’s drummer since its inception, left in 1994. He was succeeded by Mike Malin, who also left in 2013. Tutuska died in November 2008.

Despite changes to the ensemble, the Goo Dolls have smashed countless records and gained significant praise in America and throughout the world during the last three decades.

Their sixth studio album, “Dizzy Up the Girl,” which was released in September 1998, propelled them to global recognition and is still considered a classic in modern rock history.

Goo Goo Dolls have sold 15 million records worldwide, been nominated for four Grammys, and have over a dozen platinum and gold songs.

The band’s work has received platinum and gold certifications worldwide, including “Slide,” “Black Balloon,” and “Better Days,” which have been covered by Taylor Swift, Phoebe Bridgers, and Maggie Rogers, among others.

Among a succession of singles, “Iris” remained at No. 1 on the Hot 100 for 18 consecutive weeks.

The song also went viral on TikTok and reached seven-times platinum status after re-entering the Billboard charts.

This demonstrated the ageless nature of the Goo Goo Dolls library.
