Despite not winning a 2024 Primetime Emmy Award, Trevor Noah has been welcomed to share the spotlight after “The Daily Show” received an award.
From September 2015 to December 2022, the South African-born comedian helmed the well-known American satirical news and politics show, before passing over to Jon Stewart.
“The Daily Show” earned the Outstanding Talk Series award at the 76th annual presentation, which took place on Sunday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
When “TimesLIVE” asked Stewart in the press room if Noah could return to the hosting desk, he joked.
“Am I being fired,” Stewart asked backstage.
“In all seriousness, that’d be lovely, the more the merrier. We have such a lovely family of outstanding talent through the years, from [Steve] Carell and [Stephen] Colbert, to [John] Oliver and Rob Corddry. All these incredible people have walked through the doors, and as you see, the incredible talent that stands on this stage.
“We always have a sense that we’re ‘borrowing’ [the comedians] because we understand some other producer who has more money than basic cable is going to say, ‘that person can do something great for us’.
“I’ve loved the family of collaborators we’ve built up over all the years, and the nice part about tonight is coming out and seeing everybody again.”
Noah has been nominated for 20 Emmys and won two, including Outstanding Talk Series in January. He received an Emmy in 2017 for Outstanding Short Form Variety Series.
But this year, the 40-year-old lost to Dick Van Dyke’s “98 Years of Magic” in the Outstanding Variety Special category for his “Trevor Noah: Where Was I”.
In January, it was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television, which was won by British comedian and actor Ricky Gervais for his comedy special “Armageddon”.
Noah made history earlier this year by being the first black man to win an Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series at the 75th Emmy Awards. The last edition of the awards was held in January due to writers’ and actors’ strikes, which caused a delay in 2023.
During his victory speech, the 40-year-old honored the previous host of the late-night talk program, Jon Stewart, as well as his “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah” staff.
“Wherever you are my friend, thank you for calling me up,” quipped Noah.
Noah won his first Emmy in 2017 in the Outstanding Short Form Variety Series for his work on “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah”.
He also has several other accolades to his name, including five NAACP prizes, two MTV awards and an Erasmus Prize.
Next, he is set to release “Into The Uncut Grass”, a picture book teaching youngsters valuable life lessons.
Meanwhile, some of the biggest winners at the 2024 Emmys were “The Bear”, “Shogun”, “Baby Reindeer’ and “Hacks”.
