Dr. Jessica Mbangeni’s memorial ceremony will be held on Friday, September 6, at 2pm at The Market Theatre in Johannesburg.
Mbangeni, who died on Saturday, August 31, was a well-known and strong praise poet who performed at prominent events such as Nelson Mandela’s 46664 concert and former President Thabo Mbeki’s inauguration.
Family, friends, and colleagues will gather for the memorial ceremony to honor the poet’s life and contributions to the creative and cultural industries.
A specific dress code has been established, and attendees are encouraged to wear traditional regalia as a symbol of Mbangeni’s love and profound commitment to her culture and heritage.
“She was more than just a world celebrated praise singer and a musical maestro, she was a cultural cornerstone, a beacon of hope and an unstoppable force for artistic expression and advocacy,” the family of Mbangeni maintains.
Her vibrant and eye-catching traditional attire, as well as her powerful voice, endeared her to many. She cherished the richness of South Africa’s heritage with grace and dignity, inspiring many. She will be remembered in a way that reflects the type of person she was: a proud cultural ambassador.
She will also be honored in Jamaica on September 8 as a symbol of her service to the global community.
