According to a Lebanese security source, Israel conducted its first significant city attack since the start of the Gaza War a year ago on Monday, killing four people in an airstrike on an apartment building in Beirut.
Israel has been bombing Iran’s regional supporters in Lebanon instead of Gaza in recent days. The head of Hezbollah, whom Iran supports, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed on Friday by strikes on their sites.
The security source added that the drone assault on Monday was directed towards a “flat belonging to Jamaa Islamiya,” a Lebanese Islamist organization.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a secular left-wing organization, said that three of its members had died during Monday’s strike in Beirut’s Kola area.
In a statement, the organization said that its chief of military security, Mohammad Abdel-Aal, and Imad Odeh had all passed away.
The Israeli military said on Monday that it has carried out further strikes on multiple Hezbollah positions in the Bekaa region of Lebanon.
In a Telegram post, the army declared that Israel “will continue to attack powerfully, damage and degrade Hezbollah’s military capabilities and infrastructure in Lebanon”.
