Cara Frew, a South African songbird, has attained a crucial milestone in her musical career.
Frew has joined the Grammy Recording Academy.
She performs alongside South African singer Breindy Klawansky of the Breindy and Matt pair, Nigerian singers Flavour, OLA, Maleek Berry, and Afropop singer and songwriter Tresor Riziki.
The Recording Academy represents the voices of performers, songwriters, producers, engineers, and other music industry professionals. This inclusion will enable Frew to actively engage in the Grammy Awards process, both as a voter and as an artist eligible for nomination.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled to be accepted into the Grammy Recording Academy. This recognition validates the hard work and passion I’ve poured into my creative pursuits.
“I look forward to engaging with fellow members and contributing to the Academy’s mission of celebrating and honouring musical excellence,” shared Frew.
Becoming a member of the Grammy Recording Academy is a tough procedure.
Frew kept detailed records of her accomplishments, which included radio airplay, in-person performances at key events, collaborations with well-known bands, and Samas nominations and awards.
Securing two recommendation letters from current Grammy Recording Academy members strengthened her membership candidacy.
It took another six months until the Academy accepted her.
“This accolade is incredibly special to me as a South African. It signifies international recognition of my creative standards and acknowledges my contributions to the music industry over the years.
“Membership in the Recording Academy is more than a personal achievement; it’s an opportunity to advocate for South African artists on a global scale.”
Frew, who recently dropped her eight-track acoustic album, “Candy Coloured Nightmare”, said she is dedicated to exploring new creative avenues, creating music that connects with her listeners, and influencing music trends in South Africa and around the world.
The press statement read: “‘Candy Coloured Nightmare’ features gritty pop vocals and elevated acoustic rhythms, with organic elements, earthy drums, and live guitars. The album is being released through a waterfall approach, with singles dropping every six weeks.”
The latest single, “Pool Party”, dropped on August 30, “Tide” will release on October 11, and the final track, “Supernatural”, drops on November 22.
