Buffalo in Kruger National Park Charges and Kills Poacher, Turning Tables on Illegal Hunters

Police in Masisi, Limpopo’s Vhembe District, have detained five males aged 28 to 42 in Bennde-Mutale and Nkotswi villages for obstructing justice and illegal hunting.

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the provincial police spokeswoman in Limpopo, said the accused individuals were arrested on Sunday.

A buffalo attacked one of the men when they were illegally hunting buffalo in the Kruger National Park.

“The group shot the buffalo, and one of the accomplices removed the injured victim, who had died, from the scene and placed him next to the park’s fence.” “One of them returned home to notify relatives to come and pick him up,” Ledwaba explained.

The alerted relative proceeded to pick up the deceased man’s body.

“When they arrived home, they informed the undertaker about the deceased, and the body was removed from the residence. “After discovering that the deceased had multiple injuries, the undertaker notified the police,” Ledwaba explained.

The police have opened inquests, undermining the rule of law and engaging in illegal hunting.

The five arrested men are scheduled to appear in the Masisi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, charged with illegal hunting and opposing the ends of justice.

Buffalo are called as ‘widow-makers’ because to their aggressive and unpredictable behavior, which kills 200 people in Africa each year.
