AHRC Chase Phd Studentship Opportunity In Partnership With Birkbeck, University Of London
Narratives Of Fall: The Archive And Art Collection Of The Nineteenth Century Foundling Hospital
Birkbeck, University of London and the Foundling Museum, London, invite applications for a three-year, fully funded Collaborative Doctoral Award beginning 1 October 2023.
This exciting PhD research opportunity will explore the work of the Foundling Hospital in the mid-Victorian period (c.1830-1870), as part of a broader examination of the representation of female sexuality and its regulation in the period. It will focus on the Hospital archive, which is currently held at London Metropolitan Archives, and the Foundling Museum’s art collection from the same period.
The award holder will work closely with the archive and the collection and will be offered extensive research and curatorial training. As well as a thesis, the student will contribute to the Museum website and to an exhibition at the Foundling Museum giving the successful applicant an excellent opportunity to showcase their research skills.
CHASE values the diversity of its staff and students and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds. We particularly welcome applications from BAME backgrounds, as they are currently underrepresented at this level and research area.
