ANC Expels Former President, Jacob Zuma

The African National Congress (ANC) has expelled former President Jacob Zuma.

Zuma was brought before the party’s disciplinary committee for publicly endorsing the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP) before of the May 29 elections.

After ousting MKP founder Jabulani Khumalo, Zuma took over the party’s leadership, and the young party dealt a serious blow to the ANC in the provincial and national elections.

The ANC received only 40% of the national vote, whilst Zuma’s MK Party received an impressive 14%.

Zuma faced two charges: one for collaborating with another political organization (MKP), and the other for joining a political party that was not affiliated with the ANC.The party declared that the hearings will be conducted remotely.

A leaked document from the ANC’s national disciplinary committee reveals that Zuma was found guilty of many violations of the ANC constitution.

Zuma has 21 days to appeal the ruling to the National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal.

Meanwhile, Snuki Zikalala, President of the African National Congress Veterans’ League, stated that the decision was long overdue.

Speaking with Newzroom Afrika, Zikalala stated that Zuma’s expulsion is beneficial for the party and society.

He stated that Zuma has the right to appeal, and that due process will be followed. However, he noted that it is untenable for Zuma to assert that he will remain an ANC member despite violating the party’s constitution.

“He has worked against the ANC, founded his own party, and deceived more than two million people by claiming to be an ANC member. We welcome the decision to expel him and encourage him to appeal,” he said.

Zikalala stated that the party cannot have people who do whatever they want. He went on to say that if someone crosses a line, they should be reprimanded regardless of their party standing.
