African National Congress Announces Two Women As Premier Candidates

The African National Congress nominated two women to be provincial premiers.

The ruling party has submitted its list of provincial premier candidates. According to SABC News, the African National Congress has two women on the list: Dr. Phophi Ramathuba from Limpopo and Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae from Free State.

The list also includes Oscar Mabuyane, the incumbent Premier of the Eastern Cape, and Lazarus Mokgosi, the party’s Deputy Chairperson in the North West. Mandla Ndlovu, the ANC’s provincial chair in Mpumalanga, will become the province’s Premier.

Gauteng’s candidate for Premier is current Premier Panyaza Lesufi, while Zamani Saul will remain in the Northern Cape. The Democratic Alliance secured a majority in the Western Cape, leaving the ANC without a Premier. Kwazulu-Natak is likewise out of reach, as the MK Party won more over 45% of the vote but has yet to choose a Premier candidate.

Following @Vhoni_Venture’s tweet, netizens praised Dr. Phophi Ramathuba.
