Her family has been “largely denied contact” with Wendy Williams.
The talk show host’s family claims they don’t spend much time with Wendy, that Sabrina Morrissey has taken guardianship of her while she battles illnesses like frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia.
“Wendy Williams’s family is unable to speak on her current condition and location due to ongoing litigation and the fact that they have largely been denied contact,” a source told PEOPLE as she turned 60 this week.
However, they are all cheering for Wendy, praying for her, and sending their best wishes to her on her 60th birthday. She is, was, and will always be a symbol.”
Last year, Williams received diagnoses for frontotemporal dementia, a disorder that affects behavior, personality, and language, and primary progressive aphasia, a rare disorder that affects the neurological system and impairs communication.
Williams’ sister Wanda Finnie asserted in February that the family had not heard from Wendy since she visited them in Florida in 2021 and that she was not informed of her sibling’s condition following her placement in a facility for cognitive treatment.
She said to persons: “There were several persons involved when she was in Florida. Beyond the family, doctors and other professionals in Wendy’s field were also involved. She had a support system in place, including nurses, a health team, and family. Her health was improving.
“How did she go from being our beloved aunt or sister who is well one minute to someone who is constantly in and out of the hospital? In what way is that system superior to the one the family could implement? I’m not sure. I am aware of the flaws in this system. I’m hoping Wendy will eventually gain the strength to speak up for herself.”
