A ransom demand has been made for Gqeberha woman Rajathi Gnanaraj, who was kidnapped on Friday.
The Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (the Hawks) confirmed that a ransom demand had been made.
The sum is unknown.
Lieutenant Colonel Avele Fumba, the Eastern Cape Hawks spokeswoman, stated that because to the sensitive nature of the probe, “we can not share more details at this time”.
The search for Gnanaraj, 41, has entered its fifth day.
Police said she was kidnapped on the evening of August 2, 2024, outside her business in Deal Party, Gqeberha.
According to Eastern Cape police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, gunmen approached Gnanaraj and her husband’s vehicle on Old Grahamstown Road in Deal Party at 6 p.m.
“Approximately seven armed suspects approached their vehicle, and when the victim refused to open her door, the suspects smashed the window.
Calvin Naidoo, a notable Gqeberha merchant, was kidnapped and later rescued.
The incident also occurred outside his place of employment, as balaclava-clad thieves forced him off the road
There have been a number of kidnappings in recent weeks.
Senzo Mchunu, the national Minister of officers, congratulated the officers for their efforts.
