A member of the School Governing Body in the North West is scheduled to appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday on corruption charges.
The 41-year-old guy was arrested on Thursday by personnel of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (often known as the Hawks).
Colonel Tinyiko Mathebula, the Hawks’ provincial spokesperson, stated that this case is being examined by personnel of the Serious Corruption Investigation Unit in Mahikeng.
“The defendant, a former School Governing Body (SGB) chairwoman in Lichtenburg, reportedly sought payment from four complainants in exchange for administrative clerk and teacher assistant positions at a primary school in Lichtenburg.
“The investigation indicated that the complainants paid gratification to the suspect between 2022 and 2023 in order to get positions at a local primary school. One complainant allegedly paid the suspect R14,500, another R10,000, and the other two R1,000 each to gain employment,” Mathebula stated.
The suspect is anticipated to face four corruption charges.
Major General Patrick Mbotho, Head of the Hawks in the North West, and Dr Rachel Makhari, Director of Public Prosecutions in the province, have both hailed the arrest.
They have warned public officials not to get involved in corrupt operations, as law enforcement will not hesitate to take action against those who do.
Law enforcement authorities have asked the public to report corrupt activity.
