Man Rescued From Collapsed Building After 5 Days

South African rescuers successfully rescued a guy from a collapsed building after he had been trapped beneath rubble for five days. According to The Associated Press, the five-story building in George, Western Cape, fell on May 6, killing 81 people.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde described the man’s rescue as “nothing short of a miracle.” Officials have confirmed 13 deaths, 29 survived, and 39 remain unaccounted for.

In a post on X (previously Twitter), Winde stated that the man who was rescued had been buried under the rubble for 116 hours. Rescuers at the fallen building have been using cranes, drills, and their own hands to extract anyone still trapped beneath the wreckage.

“Despite the introduction of large machinery, rescue techniques will still be applied meticulously and sensitively by the highly skilled and experienced disaster management team,” the municipality stated in its original statement.

Authorities are investigating the building collapse.
