Landlord Arrested in Harties for Allegedly Shooting Tenant During Dispute over Utilities

Police in the North West province have detained a 72-year-old landlord for allegedly sh0oting and k!lling his tenant.

Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani, a police spokesman in the North West, said that the murder occurred on Sunday at a site outside Hartbeespoort Dam in Brits.

“According to the reports, the 66-year-old tenant approached his landlord when he discovered that there was no electricity and water at his place,” Funani added.

“Following an argument that ensued between the two, the landlord went inside his house and came back with a firearm and allegedly shot the victim on his upper-body.”

According to police, the landlord fled the scene as the sh0oting renter was rushed to the hospital.

The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical facility.

“The guy was captured following an intelligence-led operation in the Skeerport region. “The police also recovered a firearm, which will be subjected to ballistic tests,” Funani stated.

The arrested 72-year-old accused of murder is scheduled to appear in Brits Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, facing murder accusations.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the provincial police commissioner for North West, praised the police force for their “concerted effort to ensure the arrest of the suspect.”
