Katlego Danke, an award-winning actress, paid tribute to Sello Motloung, expressing her shock that the 54-year-old actor had passed away.
The acclaimed actor’s family announced his death in a statement, but did not reveal the cause.
“We are devastated to inform you of the sudden passing of Ntate Sello Motloung on Sunday 15 September. His family is in shock and we ask that you give them space at this time,” said the Motloung family in a statement on Monday morning.
South Africa’s entertainment industry, this year has experienced several deaths, from screen actors to those behind the scenes.
In her tweet, Danke reflected on the deaths that happened in the last nine months.
“This is proving to be a very difficult year. A year filled with pain and loss.”
She then shared words of comfort as paid tribute to her friend and referred to Motloung as a brother.
“I suppose we also have to remind ourselves of the gift and true celebration of life. Sello… my brother, my friend… I will miss you. I can’t believe I’m saying these words but RIP”.
Darlington “Papa G” Michaels died this weekend, and kwaito star Sandile Ngwenya, also known as Mapaputsi, was laid to rest on Saturday.
The month prior, iconic actress Connie Chiume, noted for her appearances in “Gomora” and “Black Panther,” died in August. While fans were still mourning that loss, Crown Gospel Awards founder Zanele Mbokazi passed away.
Women’s Month ended on a tragic note, with the deaths of two well-known entertainers: Thabiso Sikwane, a radio and television personality, and Jessica Mbangeni, a praise poet and singer.
Mpho Sebeng, who starred in Mzansi Magic’s “Ring of Lies” with Motloung as his kid, was killed in a car accident in May.
