Three r*pists have received hefty prison sentences for gang r*ping three women and mu*dering one of the victims’ boyfriends.
Sunday Sibiya, 26, Sibusiso Ncamu, 27, Jaja Luphoto, 20, and Phumlani Masoka, 20, were punished by the Bethal Regional Court.
During the sentence hearing, police spokeswoman Captain Magonseni Nkosi disclosed that one of the r*pe victims was six months pregnant during the assault. One case of group r*pe was also mentioned.
“According to reports, two years ago, on Friday, June 17, 2022, the quartet burst into the r*pe victim’s home in Bethal. They assaulted the victim while she was visiting her lover.
“The man, 25, is said to have attempted to flee the house but was stabbed several times before succumbing to his injuries.” “His lifeless body was discovered lying in a pool of blood near a petrol station,” Nkosi said.
Nkosi went on to say that the four proceeded back to the house and each took turns r*ping the victim.
“The incident was then reported to police, and a manhunt was initiated in collaboration with a private security firm.
“Four individuals were identified as perpetrators of the heinous act using intelligence-driven information. The following day, Saturday, June 17, 2022, they were detained at Emzinoni, near Bethal.
The inquiry later revealed that the defendants were complicit in the offenses committed. When the sentence was handed down, Sibiya and Ncamu received three life sentences for three counts of r*pe, 15 years for murder, 15 years for aggravated robbery, and four years for attempted murder.
The court also found Lephoto and Masoka guilty and sentenced them to 20 years each for all of their crimes.
