Floyd Shivambu stated that while numerous Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leaders were aware of his plans to join the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party), EFF leader Julius Malema was unaware.
Shivambu stated that he did not see the need to warn Malema.
“Some of my comrades were startled that I went to MKP. “The majority of EFF leaders were aware that I would be joining MKP,” he claimed.
“Even other officials came to urge me not to tell the president; he had no idea, and I didn’t see the point in discussing it with him. They asked me not to tell him that we were aware of your decision.
The MK Party national organiser also revealed that some of the leaders wanted to follow him, but he rejected the proposal.
“Joining a political party as a group is not sustainable, it is not disciplined, it’s not a proper organisational and political culture.”
During an interview with Sizwe Mpofu-Welsh on the SMWX podcast, Shivambu discussed the reasons behind his decision to leave the EFF and why he believes it was a good political move.
“I had to make a bold and possibly best decision for the EFF… He stated, “This is the correct path and decision in the history of politics.”
In August, he resigned from the EFF as deputy president and party member of parliament (MP).
At the time, Shivambu described his move as revolutionary.
In the interview, Shivambu stated that he created the EFF.
“In terms of how it was built, I was instrumental in its formation. It’s no secret that I created the EFF: the name, references to Commissars, Commander-in-Chief (CIC), seven cardinal pillars, the founding manifesto, and all of its important documents, including those that comprise the third National People’s Assembly,” he stated.
Shivambu stated that it was not his responsibility to invite individuals, particularly EFF members, to join the MK Party, and that they might join if they so choose.
Meanwhile, the red berets suffered a significant setback when EFF provincial leaders and other officials announced their withdrawal from the party.
This included former MP and public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane, who has lately joined the MK Party.
