Dr. Matthew Lani Reports that He and His Mother are Currently Living in a Shelter

Matthew Lani, a bogus doctor, is currently residing in a shelter without a phone, which is why he has not been spotted on social media.

Lani deceived his social media followers for months by claiming to be a medical doctor and giving medical advice on a regular basis. Lani also claimed to have performed several surgeries, but his “medical career” came to an end when it was discovered that he had stolen an intern doctor’s identity.

Lani revealed in a TikTok video that he and his mother were living in a Johannesburg shelter.

“I’ve been in the shelter for four months. It’s challenging but it’s better than being out in the street,” Lani said.

He said he had to swallow his pride, humble himself and recognise the situation he was in.

Lani made waves in 2023 after becoming famous for providing medical advice on TikTok. When people began questioning his counsel and qualifications, Lani claimed to have attended Cambridge International College and earned a medical degree from the University of Witwatersrand; both schools disputed these claims.

He was detained in October of last year on charges of impersonating a medical professional.

At the time, authorities reported that he was apprehended by security at Helen Joseph Hospital. After appearing in court, HowSouth reported that Lani’s charges had been dropped. He went on to assert that he only invented the character for content.

Lani told the Daily Sun that his incarceration and pretending to be a doctor had a negative influence on his mother.

He stated that he wished to clear his name. Lani stated that he lost his housing, car, and business and is now “looking forward” to his R350 award.

He insists that he did nothing wrong and wishes to prove himself.
