DJ Maphorisa grabbed social media by storm once more, fulfilling his vow that “I am strong and I will bounce back” following a successful gig with Kabza De Small.
After receiving some negative press last week for the recent release of the chart-topping amapiano song “Amalanga Awafani,” DJ Maphorisa rebounded with an electrifying performance at the Galaxy 947Joburg event held at Crocodile Creek Polo Club in Lanseria.
The controversial hitmaker performed with Kabza de Small over the weekend, sending people into a frenzy as they danced and electrified the crowd.
In social media footage, Maphorisa had thousands of admirers singing and dancing alongside him, seemingly unaffected by the threats to cancel him.
Last Monday, he went live on Instagram to address the matter of not acknowledging vocalist Samthing Soweto for the song’s release.
Things got out of control as he started getting emotional, saying things like, “Do you know what I have done for this country, for the game?”
He also mentioned that people should not come for Mas Musiq, the song’s producer, but should hold him accountable instead.
The performance was a testament of his words that he will bounce as it was a success. Videos shared online and on Tiktok showed fans singing and dancing with him.
Under his post on Instagram, Mawande_yena_yedwa commented: “People only hate on the internet,” and another fan, Ne_sh_ly, said, “He did say he’ll bounce back lol.” This gig shows that no bad stunt can pull him down.
On X, @Ball_Knowledge, commented, “One thing about South Africans, they bark on social media. They never bite.” Another user, @BonganiZuluSA commented, “Celebrity hate is only on social media, there has never been an artist that was booed on stage or had a fan confronting them in real life for what social media aims to cancel them for. So basically all we do here is make noise and waste time”.
