BREADING: Former Tshwane Mayor Dr Murunwa Makwarela Dies

Dr Murunwa Makwarela, former mayor of the City of Tshwane, died this morning. Many South Africans expressed astonishment over his passing on social media.

According to @ewnupdates, the reason of death was not disclosed. He died at the age of 52. Makwarela died one year after appearing in court on fraud allegations.

According to IOL, Makwarela surrendered to the Brooklyn Police Station in April 2023 after being charged with providing a bogus insolvency certificate. The City investigated him when he claimed to be insolvent, and they demanded proof of his insolvency. He also allegedly collected R1.4 million while serving as the City of Tshwane’s Speaker.
