In an exclusive interview with IOL Entertainment, award-winning rapper Blxckie spoke up about his latest track “South,” parenthood, and leading his worldwide tour in the United States.
Sihle Sithole, a Durban-born rapper, recently released a new music to accompany the Sprite Limelight campaign.
The hitmaker has had a hectic year both musically and personally, becoming a father and being nominated for a 2024 BET Hip Hop Award.
Blxckie revealed that the creation of “South” with production duo Daytrip was based on a sample, which they flipped and developed into the final version of “South” after trying three different versions.
After recording the song, he worked to have his face on Sprite packaging and filmed the music video for “South” in Durban.
His international tour, “See You Soon,” is named after his EP, which was released on his new label, Def Jam.
The tour is inspired by this stage of his career, during which he plans to venture outside of South Africa.
“‘See u soon’ is me telling the people here at home that I’ve got some work to do outside the country, so I’ll be back; I’ll see you soon,” he explained during the interview.
Blxckie expressed his enthusiasm over his nomination for the 2024 BET Hip Hop Award.
He also mentioned that these are exciting days for local hip hop in general, with all of the chart-topping releases. He went on to say that it demonstrates how people throughout the world are paying attention.
Sithole, a new father, spoke openly about his journey into fatherhood.
He shared that this experience has been full of firsts for him because he has never been a parent before, but he believes he is learning a lot and that the baby is doing well.
When asked how he feels about going on tour and leaving his daughter behind after already forming a bond with her, he said:
“It hurts a little bit. Since she’s been born, I haven’t really been out of the country or away for that long,” he said.
He may be a new dad but he sure knows how to work his way around changing a diaper, thanks to the internet, he shared.
His tour kicks off on his birthday, November 24, and he’s excited to see that all the hard work he’s put in has culminated in a strong brand and a solid name in the industry.
He’s thrilled to be headlining and hopes people come out to experience his music and see how they feel about the different genres he explores.
