The Karen McKellin Foreign Leader of Tomorrow Award recognizes international undergraduate students who succeed in a variety of critical areas, including academics, leadership, involvement in extracurricular activities, and community service.

Your degree of financial need has a substantial bearing on the value of this Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award. By totaling up your tuition, fees, and living costs, you can determine how much money you and your family may give each year. Based on the financial information that you and your family have provided, a typical needs analysis is constructed.

Your scholarship may be renewed for up to three more years of undergraduate study or until you get your degree, whichever comes first, as long as you keep your study permission for Canada and show ongoing academic excellence.

The following requirements must be satisfied to qualify for the Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Study Award:

To study in Canada, you must be an international student who has received a study permission.

You must be coming to UBC from a recognized secondary school or be transferring from your first year of a post-secondary college or another university.

Prior to June of the two academic years before the one for which you are applying, you must have graduated from high school. Candidates for the class of 2022, for example, must have graduated from high school no earlier than June 2020.

You must show that your financial situation is such that it would otherwise preclude you from obtaining a degree at UBC. (UBC automatically examines all foreign students for the merit-based Outstanding International Student Awards and International Major Entrance Scholarships, which have a combined annual maximum value of $25,000 each. You are qualified to apply for the International Scholars Program if this sum is insufficient to satisfy your needs for tuition and essential living costs.)
