Sony Music Entertainment Africa paid tribute to Solly Moholo, a prominent gospel performer, upon his passing.
In August, on his pre-album launch tour in Botswana, the 65-year-old musician became ill and required hospitalization.
He died on Wednesday, October 2, while in the hospital.
During his stint with Sony Music Entertainment Africa, Moholo released popular singles and albums such as “Tsoha Jonase,” “Mugabe le Tshangarai,” “Best of Solly Moholo,” and “Stop Crime,” among hundreds of others.
Among the countless condolences flooding in from fans, peers, and friends, Sean Watson, managing director of Sony Music Entertainment Africa, saluted the music star, saying they had lost a “great friend and colleague”.
“We will miss his bright smile and the dancing light in his eyes that mirrored his sharpest of wits.
“Solly made more than music. He made joy. Even in sorrow, our fondest memory will remain his contagious laughter and his passionate pursuit of putting smiles on the faces of his fans.
“Solly was a legend without peer. He was a champion of hope and an ambassador of optimism.
“We are proud that we were able to offer him a home for his music at Sony and we will honour his trust in us for as long as we are given the privilege of representing his work. We will miss him dearly. We salute you Solly Moholo.”
He continued: “His legacy will live on as someone who gave us healing through his music and hope beyond some of our most difficult challenges through his infectious performances.”
Details of the gospel musician’s memorial service and funeral will be shared on all his official pages in due course.
