Martha Stewart was “dragged into solitary confinement” and denied food and water for a day while in prison.
In 2004, the lifestyle guru was sentenced to five months in prison for insider trading charges. In a new Netflix documentary, “Martha,” she discusses her experience at Alderson Federal Prison Camp in West Virginia, also known as Camp Cupcake.
In the film, Stewart’s jail journals are read, and one excerpt discloses that she was punished for accidently touching one of the prison guards.
She wrote: “Today, I spotted two very well-dressed ladies strolling and passed them by, commenting on the beautiful warm morning and how nice they looked.
“When I realized from the large silver key chain that they were guards, I casually stroked the chain. Later, I was summoned and told, “Never, ever touch a guard without expecting severe reprimand.”
Stewart stated in an interview for the film that she had apologized and moved on from the “minor” incident.
However, she was taken aback when she received her penalty. She said, “I was dragged into isolation for touching an officer.
“There will be no food or water for a day. Remember Camp Cupcake? That was their nickname. Camp Cupcake. “It was not a cupcake.”
The film depicted the star’s living conditions through her journals. She wrote, “In my chamber, there is an ancient double-decker bedstead with a metal spring and frame.
“The springs are really sagging, resulting in an unhealthy bed set. I would prefer the top bunk, but if you are over 62 years old, you are automatically assigned to a bottom berth.”
She remarked about the food: “What concerns me is the very bad quality of the food and the lack of fresh anything because there are numerous carbohydrates, carbs, and fat meals. There is no pure anything. “Everything was terrible.”
Stewart began her term in September 2004 and was released in March 2005.
