On Tuesday afternoon, the Chiume family reported her death and asked for privacy while they grieved. According to the family statement, Chiume passed away at Garden City Hospital. She was 72.
Felicia Mabuza-Suttle, a legendary TV broadcaster, was among the first to pay respect to the actress when news of her death spread.
Mabuza-Suttle referred to the former “Gomora” actress as a “icon and legend” in her caption.
The former TV talk show host shared a tape from an interview on her show where they discussed the issue of South African performers, with Chiume as one of the guests.

The multi-award winning actress had an illustrious career with roles on hit TV shows such as “Mohlolohadi”, “Yizo Yizo”, “Zone 14”, “Rhythm City”, “Housekeepers”, “Grassroots”, the Marvel movie “Black Panther”, and “Gomora”.
MultiChoice, which Chiume worked with and had a good standing relationship with, paid their tributes to the actress.
