On Aug. 18, at The National Convention and Expo In Orlando, ChiroHealthUSA announced the recipient of the Foxworth Family Scholarship. This year’s scholarship winner is Martin Henderson, a student at Life Chiropractic College West.
“Receiving this scholarship is an incredible honor that serves as recognition for my commitment to excellence in the field of chiropractic,” Henderson said. “It helps mark the beginning of a lifelong journey, offering quality care to my patients and promoting access to care to the underserved, especially in the Latino and Hispanic communities.”
For the eighth consecutive year, a chiropractic student was awarded a $10,000 scholarship plus $5,000 cash for their expenses, and a $10,000 donation was made to the student’s chiropractic college. The Foxworth Family Chiropractic Scholarship is fully funded by ChiroHealthUSA and was established in honor of the parents of President Ray Foxworth, DC, FICC, Drs. Betty Pace Mathews and Charles Vernon Mathews. “Establishing a scholarship in my parents’ honor was a small way to thank them and the profession that has done so much for me,” Foxworth said.
“On behalf of the entire Life Chiropractic College West community, I want to congratulate Martin Henderson for receiving the 2023 Foxworth Family Scholarship. Martin is one of Life West’s top students and is a valued member of the Life West community,” said Ron Oberstein, DC, President.
“His healing spirit is evident in both his actions and words, and his desire to improve the health of others has led him to a second career in chiropractic,” Oberstein continued. “Originally from Argentina, he plans to expand the availability of chiropractic to Spanish-speaking communities by making it more accessible and better understood.
“Martin exemplifies the ethos of Life West’s Lasting Purpose, by Giving, Doing, Loving and Serving everyone he touches. I could not think of a more deserving recipient of the Foxworth Family Scholarship.”
Students may begin submitting applications for the 2024 scholarship on September 1, 2023. The deadline for submissions is March 30, 2024. Recipient notifications will go out on or before July 15, 2024, and the recipient will again be announced during the National Convention in Orlando in August of 2024.
“It is important for me to give back to a profession that has meant so much to me and my family,” said Foxworth, “not only as tribute to my parents, but as an opportunity for chiropractic students to follow in their footsteps.”
ChiroHealthUSA and the Foxworth family would like to thank the organizations that provide evaluators to help in the selection of the scholarship recipient: Clinical Compass, Chiropractic Future Strategic Plan, Women Chiropractors, ChiroCongress, Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards, One Chiropractic, American Chiropractic Association, International Chiropractic Association, Council on Chiropractic Education, Chiropractic Summit, Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, American Black Chiropractic Association, and the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
