Internationally recognized and highly respected South African singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, humanitarian and teacher has been announced a recipient of the Humanitarian Award at the upcoming 2017 BET Awards.
With a foundation named after her, Princess of African Foundation was established in 2006 to complement the work of Yvonne Chaka Chaka as UNICEF and Rollback Malaria Goodwill ambassadors in Africa. It is a non-profit organization registered under Section 21 of the Companies Act with main objectives being to carry out community and social charity works.
Considered a role model throughout the African continent, she has demonstrated compassion for others throughout her career. Yvonne has taught literacy, promoted the rights of women, and never stopped to work to protect children everywhere.
This year, Yvonne Chaka Chaka shares the same award with Ilwad Elman Somali, a Somali-Canadian social activist. Ilwad works at the Elman Peace and Human Rights Center in Mogadishu alongside her mother Fartuun Adan, the NGO’s founder.
The two have been instrumental in their respective fields making Africa a better place.
