WhatsApp Update: Introducing ‘Catalog’ For Small Businesses

Small business owners, rejoice. WhatsApp is now making it easier for holders of a WhatsApp Business account to share their products with their clients.

WhatsApp Business Catalog

The feature began rolling out to users in Brazil, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, the UK and the US on Android and iOS. Residents in other parts of the world will be receiving this feature in due course.

Why is the WhatsApp Catalog useful?

Gone are the days when you had a send multiple messages to your clients, going back and forth about product descriptions, functions, price, and so forth.

And certainly no more sending each image individually. With the new catalogue feature, business owners can showcase and share their goods more easily.

Customers will be able to see the catalogue right within WhatsApp, while business owners will come across as professional, and will keep their customers engaged for longer.

A case study from Indonesia

WhatsApp shared the example of Agradaya, a sustainable herbs and spices business in Indonesia:

“We gave the founder, Andhika Mahardika, early access to the catalog feature and he told us that it makes it easier for customers to learn about their products, know the prices and view the images of what they offer — which is essential for serving their customers better.”

WhatsApp explains that for each item in the catalogue, a business can add information including price, description and product code.

In addition, WhatsApp will host these catalogues to save valuable storage space on the phones of both businesses and customers. Isn’t that neat?

How to create a catalogue on WhatsApp Business:

  • Open the WhatsApp Business App.
  • Go to Settings
  • Select Business Settings
  • Then select Catalog
  • Add the product or service
  • Add images; choose from your gallery or camera
  • Provide product description and information
  • Save, and start sharing your catalogue

If the Catalog option is not available in your app, update your app to activate the new features. And that’s it! Now we just wait for the feature to be launched in South Africa.

What is WhatsApp Business?

It’s a version of WhatsApp designed specifically for smaller business. The app comes with additional features, such as filling out your business profile and attached labels to customer chats.

In addition, it comes with all the standard features we know and love – free calls, group chats, sending multimedia, etc. Furthermore, you can run both WhatsApp and WA Business on the same phone.

However, you will need a different number for the business app. This is a useful feature to keep business and personal communications separate.
