Vodacom Downgrades Bonang To Prepaid Status After Twitter Rant

Bonang Matheba Should Be The President

For the last few years, Vodacom has had the likes of Bonang Matheba and members of the Mandela family on premium contracts but the news this week is that they have all been downgraded for various reasons

According to the Sunday World, Winnie Madikizela Mandela, and other family members including Zinzi, Zenani, Mandla, Mbuso and Ndaba were all on unlimited free airtime contracts. The network has now downgraded them to capped plans (Winnie has R2 500 per month while the rest are on R750 top-ups.

Vodacom spokesperson, Byron Kennedy, explained the change: “As governance requirements and expectations in South Africa and around the world have progressively changed over the past two decades, so too has the contractual relationship between corporates and the likes of the Mandela family.”

“After the latest attack on the company, Vodacom decided to downgrade her from its VIP list to being a mere prepaid subscriber. … the company feels enough is enough”

Bonang Matheba was also a VIP customer with the South African network, but she has since been downgraded to a prepaid plan after an explosive Twitter rant

Other sources add that this was on top of an enormous R150 000 bill that she racked up in just a month.

Kennedy clarified the company’s stance on Bonang’s situation:

“After the latest attack on the company, Vodacom decided to downgrade her from its VIP list to being a mere prepaid subscriber. As a VIP subscriber, her number had premium benefits, which are way different from those of ordinary citizens. But the company feels enough is enough.”

Do you think that Bonang will change network after being downgraded or should she stick to prepaid?
