man sent to 22years imprisonment for rape

Two people are expected to appear in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for allegedly harbouring four of the seven prisoners who broke out of Kutama Senthumule prison near Makhado, Limpopo.

Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the man and woman kept the prisoners overnight and gave them clothes to change.

”It is understood four of the seven escapees went to a house in the town of Louis Trichardt and were harboured by the duo before leaving the premises in the early hours of Friday October 27. Correctional Services’ uniforms that were allegedly worn by these prisoners were found on the premises.”

Police have so far nabbed five of the seven prisoners who escaped from the maximum security prison during a riot which started on Thursday night until the early hours of Friday. Police said the prisoners went on the rampage, torched and damaged some of the prison facilities.

Warders later discovered during a headcount that seven inmates were missing.

The five rearrested prisoners will appear in the same court on Tuesday.
