Two Boys Critically Injured In Limpopo After Falling From a Moving Timber Truck

Large truck transporting wood on the road

Two boys‚ aged between six and eight‚ are in a critical condition after they fell – or attempted to jump – from the back of a moving truck in Limpopo‚ paramedics said today.

The incident happened on Monday along the R36‚ on the outskirts of Tzaneen‚ said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

“ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the two boys on the side of the road. Paramedics assessed the boys and found that they had sustained numerous injuries and were in a critical condition‚” said Meiring.

“The boys were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to Van Velden and Letaba Hospitals for further treatment.”

Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said it was unclear where the boys were going to as they were not wearing their school uniforms at the time of the incident.

“Apparently the truck was carrying timber. Usually these trucks drive quite slowly. These young ones climbed on top of the wood and along the way they fell from the truck‚” said Mojapelo.

Asked for clarity on whether the boys jumped or fell‚ he said this would form part of the police investigation.

“They were seen by another motorist falling from the truck‚ but the truck driver continued driving. He was unaware that the boys were there‚” said Mojapelo.

An inquiry into the incident is underway.
