According to Mercer the world’s largest human resources consulting firm, Luanda, Angola’s capital, is the 2017 world’s most expensive city for expatriates.

Mercer additionally took to comprehension that Angola’s currency has debilitated against the U.S. dollar while current worldwide oil costs have fallen. This reflected in the cost of products and security in Luanda.

Nigeria’s Lagos did not make it to the top 10. The west African commercial capital was ranked at the 29th position.

Other expensive African cities ranked by MERCER include Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles; Ndjamena, the capital of Chad; and Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

At the second place is Hong Kong which remains the most expensive Asian city. Mercer recognized the fact that HK’s currency link to the dollar increased the cost of local housing.

Aside Hong Kong, other Asian cities in the list include Tokyo, Zurich, and Singapore.

Representing the United States on the top 10, New York city made it to the 9th spot. The American city is one of the World’s priciest cities of all times. It is often used as a standard for most economy per capita rankings.

For instance Mercer survey compared the cost of at least 200 consumer items in over 200 cities using New York as a benchmark. The report considered the costs of basics like housing, food, transport and entertainment.

Switzerland was represented in the top 10 by 3 cities.
