Tips On How To Manage Pre And Post Pregnancy Hair Loss

If you’re pregnant or have recently given birth and have noticed your hair falling out, do not fear – while it may be inconvenient it is perfectly normal.

This form of hair loss is called post-partum hair loss, usually occurs after childbirth and is caused by changing oestrogen levels.

Most women return to a full head of hair by the time baby turns one.

The American Academy of Dermatology suggests how to cope with loss of hair just after birth of a child:

– Use volumising shampoo and conditioner.

– Don’t use a shampoos labelled as “conditioning.” It can weigh down hair and make it look thinner.

– Choose a conditioner made for fine hair.

– Don’t put conditioner on the scalp. Only apply it to the ends of the hair.

– Don’t use any heavy conditioner labelled “intensive,” which can weigh down thin hair.

Try a new hair style

If you’re battling with long hair clogging the drain, you may want to consider going for a shorter, easy-to-style haircut such as a bob. Shorter hair often makes your hair look fuller. A hairdresser should be able to advise you on a style that will suit you best.
