Thick Leeyonce Has No Time For Body-Shaming Trolls

It’s no secret that photographer and plus-sized model, Thick Leeyonce tackles hate head-on and proudly embraces her curves in the face of haters

The university student’s unapologetic approach has gained her a huge social media following with over 200 000 followers on Instagram and 102 000 followers on Twitter, and she has become an inspiration to others.

However, Thick Leeyonce also gets bombarded with hateful and insulting messages over her weight, which she has no tolerance for.

In an interview with Sowetan, the model said she’s learnt that the negative comments from people come from a place of self-hate.

“Some people are not comfortable with seeing someone who is comfortable in their own skin and I have learnt that some people go out of their way to try and put me down or bring me down to their level of self-hatred. But I have learnt that misery loves company, and I choose not to feel bad about myself because of someone else’s opinion,” she said.

Just last month Thick Leeyonce made international headlines for standing firm against body shaming

A troll compared a picture of her in a bikini to a picture of model, Joelle Kayembe.

Thick Leeyonce’s spicy response went viral and got media attention from beyond Mzansi.

She told reporters at the time that it was important for everyone to take a stand against society’s norms of beauty.

“I’m all about positivity and self-love and it took a lot for me to get where I am. I celebrate who I am and how I am daily and people often don’t understand. It’s important that we all stand up against societal standards of beauty and understand that we are all beautiful in our own ways,” she said.
