The Clear River Campaign: Citizens Urged to Dedicate 67 Minutes to Participate

The Department of Water and Sanitation has called citizens to participate in the Clear River Campaign 2020. It urged everyone to dedicate 67 minutes during Mandela Month in taking part in the Clear Rivers Campaign.

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown people will not be able to gather to clean up rivers as they usually do.

The department is asking people to go solo and help get our river systems back to its pristine condition.

Department spokesperson Sputnik Ratau says people that wish to participate should contact the department to ensure that they conform to lockdown regulations.

“It is about bringing knowledge and awareness to South Africans that we need to keep our water ecosystems as clean as possible and what we are seeing is that it all starts with our rivers. It starts with our streams , our wetlands and all other water ecosystems, why do we need to do that is because we need to be water conscious,” explains Ratau.
