Legendary actress and performer Mary Twala has been laid to rest. She was buried in Soweto on Thursday. Her family has hailed her as a loving and caring mother. Her son Somizi Mhlongo and granddaughter Phumzile Mhlongo paid tribute to the veteran entertainer.
“My mother was a very successful woman in every aspect, at home, in her profession, 60 years in show business is not a child’s play. The most disciplined, her work ethic was amazing, if I could achieve a quarter of what my mother achieved, I would have made it. Very generous, very optimistic, every time I would call my mother, the first words she would say is ‘hello darling’ and everything else would just be okay,” said Somizi.
He said that he is at peace with what his mother was able to achieve. “She has seen me walk down the aisle, she has seen her granddaughters, her sisters, she loved her family. I’d like to thank South Africa as well for really loving my mother. “
Phumzile said Twala made sure that she spent time with her family. “Every single day we saw Ma, she would drive from Mapetla to Orlando every single day, so as the children and grandchildren we got to see her and experience her. I would like to thank Ma, for loving us and supporting us when we needed her.”
