Steve Komphela Ready To Upset Former Employers In Cup

A couple of seasons back, Steve Komphela dispensed with Kaizer Chiefs from the Nedbank Cup and this time, the Chiefs head mentor would like to guide the Soweto monsters to the last of the opposition.

Boss will go up against Free State Stars in their semi-last conflict at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

During the 2011/12 season, while still the head coach of Ea Lla Koto, Komphela guided the Bethlehem outfit to the semi-finals of the same competition.

In one of the matches leading up to Stars’ semi-final loss to Mamelodi Sundowns that season, Komphela’s team managed to beat Chiefs out of the competition.

It was on 14 April 2012 that Komphela’s Stars upset Amakhosi with a 1-0 win in a quarter-final match at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, thanks to a Dove Wome goal.

Prior to eliminating Chiefs from the competition, Komphela had guided Stars to another impressive win, against Orlando Pirates in the last 16 stage of the competition.

Edward Manqele and Paulus Masehe were the goalscorers for Stars in that match, while Diane Klate netted the only strike for Bucs.
