Mamelodi Sundowns forward Sibusiso Vilakazi says the Brazilians had to dig deep to get past Rayon Sports to secure qualification into the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

A goal in each half from Wayne Arendse and Vilakazi handed the PSL giants a 2-0 win over the Rwandan side in Sunday’s match played at a rainy Loftus Versfeld stadium.

Pitso Mosimane’s charges advance on a 2-0 aggregate score having played out a goalless draw in the first leg played in the East African country.

Vilakazi told Supersport after the match: “We played under difficult raining conditions and you could see the ball was never moving for us.

“We had to fight, we had to dig deep. We had to make use of the situation even when there were situations whereby it was difficult for us.

“But we tried to play our normal football though it was difficult.

“I think they had a few chances, but Dennis Onyango came in and helped us, but the most important thing is that we won the game, scored the goals and we are progressing to the next round.”

The 28-year old also said he is always happy to make contributions and help his club succeed, but is not looking at personal accolades.

“Scoring goals yes, maybe I am getting back to my best, but goals that are helping the team win matches, which is the most important thing that I am playing my part and contributing towards the success of the team,” Vilakazi said.

“The most important for me is coming in and helping the team. About me scoring, I could do not care-less if I am doing my part and contributing”
