Shots Fired As Motorist Speeds Off From Cape Town Roadblock

A motorist has been arrested after speeding off from a Cape Town roadblock on Monday.

The incident was captured on video and shots can clearly be heard after the driver of a blue BMW sped off. The vehicle was stopped on the corner of Jakes Gerwel and Viking Way, shortly after 15:00, said police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg.

Police gave chase and the driver was apprehended shortly afterwards.

It is unclear what the reasons were for initially stopping the driver.

An image of the vehicle taken after the arrest showed the back windscreen of the car had been damaged during the chase. The vehicle did not have a licence plate.

The 44-year-old driver was arrested for driving recklessly, Twigg said.

“Elsies River police are investigating a reckless and negligent driving and resisting arrest case docket,” he added.
